The Oppenheimer Collection
The Oppenheimer CollectionThe renowned Oppenheimer Collection at JCCC was founded in 1992 by philanthropists Marti and Tony Oppenheimer and the Oppenheimer Brothers Foundation. It includes sculptures sited across the campus as well as major paintings, photographs and works on paper. In 2004, the Oppenheimers began assembling a collection specifically destined for the new Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Traveling widely with Bruce Hartman, the museum’s director, they have amassed more than 75 works by emerging and established artists (recognized regionally, nationally and internationally) that comprise the core of the museum’s permanent collection. The Oppenheimer Collection will be showcased within the Nerman Museum’s three permanent collection galleries, located on the museum’s second floor. The collection continues to grow as new works are acquired throughout the year. Changing exhibits within the permanent collection galleries will allow visitors to view differing aspects of the collection. A new media gallery in the museum is also named for the Oppenheimers and will feature exhibits of work by artists using video and other electronic media. |
