Where is the Dental Hygiene Clinic?
The clinic is in room 201 of the Science Building (SCI) on the JCCC campus.
How can I make an appointment?
Call (913) 469-3808 ext. 1 to place your name on the appointment list. A
student will call you to schedule a specific time. Appointments are
limited and valuable, so please keep cancellations to a minimum. If you
must cancel, give us at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise, you may be
ineligible for future appointments.
When is the clinic open?
The clinic is open for appointments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and
Wednesday during the fall semester and Monday through Thursday during the
spring semester.
How long will my appointment take?
Allow plenty of time. The first visit usually takes three-and-a-half
hours. Appointments are time-consuming because students are being
supervised and evaluated by faculty. It is often necessary to schedule
additional appointments to complete your treatment.
Who provides the services?
Dental hygiene students provide services under the supervision of dentists
and registered dental hygienists.
Who qualifies for treatment?
The clinic treats JCCC students, faculty, community members and their
children. If you have a special dental or medical condition (such as
heart disease, hepatitis, high blood pressure), we need a written
statement from your physician before we can treat you.
How old must my children be to qualify for treatment?
We begin treating children at age 4. If you have school-age children, one
of our staff dentists can sign their dental cards if they do not need
additional treatment. The majority of children are seen in the clinic
during the spring semester.
Are babysitting services available?
If space is available, your children may stay in the Hiersteiner Child
Development Center during your appointment. Call (913) 469-8500 ext. 3221
for details.
Do you handle dental emergencies?
We handle only those emergencies that result from procedures we perform.
Emergency treatment is not otherwise available.
What if I need additional treatment?
Our students provide only preventive treatment. For a complete diagnosis
on treatment needs, you must see your family dentist. If you do not have
a family dentist, you may select one from our list of community dentists.
At your request, we will send diagnostic X-rays to your dentist.
