Description:
The student should be able to gain work experience in an approved training
station under instructional supervision in Administrative Assistant,
Medical, Legal, or Certificate Programs. The course will provide practical
experience using skills acquired in Business Office Technology courses. The
internship will require a minimum of 185 hours per semester job
training.
Supplies: Refer to the instructor’s course syllabus for details
about any supplies that may be required.

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Apply job training experience to future employment in Business Office Technology area.
- Apply knowledge and skills acquired in all previous Business Office Technology courses to the job duties in the office.
- Identify and define technical and human relations skills necessary for work.
- Work with manager, supervisors, clients, and peers.
Content Outline & Competencies:
I. Training Plans and Forms
A. Completes and uses forms
1. Completes student information card.
2. Prepares wage and earnings summary.
B. Develops training plan
1. Identifies and lists duties performed at job site.
2. Differentiates between duties completed occasionally and duties
which are routine job tasks.
II. Program Competencies and Job Duties
A. Compares program competencies to job duties.
B. Identifies program competencies needed in job training.
III. Evaluation of Internship Experience
A. Completes student self-evaluation.
B. Confers with coordinator regarding job performance and employer
evaluation form.
C. Schedules conference with employer as necessary.
IV. Effective Job Descriptions
A. Combines the following suggestions for writing effective job
descriptions.
1. Uses functional verbs in present tense.
2. Describes skills and equipment used on-the-job.
3. Describes nature of job duties.
4. Keys job titles in all caps whenever used.
B. Organizes sections typically found in a job description.
1. Completes a Job Identification section.
2. Organizes a Summary of Job section.
3. Assembles a Duties of Job section.
Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:
Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished
using the following methods:
Employer evaluation form and conference 80% of grade
Training plan, wage and earnings report,
and self-evaluation 20% of grade
TOTAL 100%
Grading Criteria:
90 - 100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
0 - 59% = F
