Description:
The student should be able to gain work experience in an approved training
station under instructional supervision in Administrative Assistant,
Medical, Legal, or Certificate Programs. The course will provide practical
experience in the use of skills acquired in Business Office Technology
specialty courses. The internship will require a minimum of 185 hours of
job training.
Supplies: Refer to the instructor’s course syllabus for details
about any supplies that may be required.

Admission to the business office
technology program. This course should be taken
near the end of the BOT degree or certificate
program.

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Apply job training experience to future employment in Business Office Technology areas.
- Apply knowledge and skills acquired in all previous Business Office Technology courses to the job duties in the office.
- Identify and define technical and human relations skills necessary for work.
- Work with managers, supervisors, clients, and peers.
- Write a job description for a position in Business Office Technology.
Content Outline & Competencies:
I. Training Plans and Forms
A. Complete and use forms.
1. Complete student information card.
2. Prepare wage and earnings summary.
B. Develop training plan.
1. Identify and list duties performed at job site.
2. Differentiate between duties completed occasionally and duties
which are routine job tasks.
II. Program Competencies and Job Duties
A. Compare program competencies to job duties.
B. Identify program competencies needed in job training.
III. Evaluation of Internship Experience
A. Complete student self-evaluation.
B. Confer with coordinator regarding job performance and employer
evaluation form.
C. Schedule conference with employer as necessary.
IV. Effective Job Descriptions
A. Combine the following suggestions for writing effective job
descriptions.
1. Use functional verbs in present tense.
2. Describe skills and equipment used on-the-job.
3. Describe nature of job duties.
4. Key job titles in all caps whenever used.
B. Organize sections typically found in a job description.
1. Complete a Job Identification section.
2. Organize a Summary of Job section.
3. Assemble a Duties of Job section.
Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:
Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished
using the following methods:
Employer evaluation form and conference 80% of grade
Job description, wage and earnings report,
and self-evaluation 20% of grade
TOTAL 100%
Grading Criteria:
90 - 100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
0 - 59% = F
