Description:

This course periodically offers specialized or advanced discipline-specific content related to technical theatre and theatre design, not normally taught in the curriculum, to interested and qualified students within the program. 3 hrs. lecture/wk.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

  1. Objectives vary by topic area, but in general, upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to: Accomplish complex readings and research in the designated topic area
  2. Define key terms and explain concepts within the scope of the topic
  3. Perform skills relevant to the area of study

Content Outline & Competencies:

Because of the nature of Selected Topics, the course outline and
competencies will vary, depending on the topic being offered. Course
outlines must be designed in the standard format for all JCCC approved
courses with specific objectives, outcomes and using outcome-based
language. It will be up to full-time department faculty and their
administrator to determine what topics will be offered and by whom, and to
approve course content.

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:

Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:

Evaluation will be based on typical assignments such as readings,
discussion, design or application projects, written assignments, etc.,
dependent upon the needs of the topic and the instructor.

Grade Criteria:
  A = 90 – 100%    
  B = 80 –  89%  
  C = 70 –  79%  
  D = 60 -  69%  
  F =   0 –  59%   

Caveats:

  1. Course work may transfer to universities only as elective credit
  2. A student cannot take more than two Special Topics courses in theatre, one in performance and one in technical theatre
