Description:
This is an intermediate course focusing on interior design presentation
skills. Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be
able to demonstrate visual communication skills including isometric,
axonometric, oblique and perspective drawings as well as the use of
rendering techniques and color to enhance drawings. Additionally the
student should be able to organize, mount and verbally present storyboards
to communicate the design concept. 2 hrs. lecture, 2 hrs. lab/wk. NOTE: The
prerequisite of ITMD 121 and either DRAF 164 or DRAF 261 require a grade of
"C" or higher.
Associated Costs: These are additional
(out-of-pocket) expense considerations that students should expect in
addition to the course tuition, fees, and textbooks. $75 to $100.

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Sketch, draft and render orthographic plan views and interior elevations.
- Measure and draw furniture or cabinetry in isometric, axonometric, oblique and cabinet oblique views.
- Utilize one-point, two-point and three-point perspective in drawings.
- Draw an interior perspective using a perspective grid.
- Select appropriate artistic media.
- Render an interior view of a specific space using advanced techniques.
- Organize and prepare presentation storyboard(s).
- Demonstrate verbal presentation skills.
Content Outline & Competencies:
I. Orthographic Plan Views and Interior Elevations
A. Demonstrate sketching and drafting techniques.
B. Compare sketching and drafting techniques.
C. Analyze light source and shadow placement.
D. Demonstrate entourage.
II. Perspective Views
A. Measure and draft furniture item in three orthographic views.
B. Draft the furniture item in isometric, axonometric, oblique and
cabinet oblique views.
C. Draft cabinetry with curves from orthographic views in isometric,
axonometric, oblique and cabinet oblique.
D. Critique various measurable three-dimensional views.
III. One-Point, Two-Point and Three-Point Perspective Drawings
A. Draw furniture item in one-point, two-point and three-point
perspective views.
B. Critique perspective views.
IV. Interior Perspective with a Perspective Grid
A. Draw a two-point perspective grid.
B. Use the two-point perspective grid to draw an interior perspective.
C. Critique perspective view.
V. Artistic Media for Presentations
A. Compare and contrast paper choices for presentation.
B. Compare and contrast color media choices to include: colored
pencils, designer markers and additional media of student’s choice.
VI. Application of Interior Perspective Skills
A. Select appropriate paper and media to render color interior
pictorial view.
B. Analyze light source and shadow placement.
C. Complete color two-point perspective view of interior space.
VII. Presentation Storyboard(s)
A. Compare and contrast window mounting versus front mounting.
B. Analyze board color, balance and sample placement considerations.
C. Compare and contrast adhesive choices.
D. Analyze font, key, schedule and title considerations.
E. Prepare presentation board to communicate design concept.
1. Mount colored furniture plan.
2. Mount colored perspective.
3. Mount additional views as needed to communicate design concept.
4. Mount fabric and finish samples.
5. Title and key fabrics, finishes and furnishings on presentation
board.
VIII. Verbal Presentation
A. Evaluate factors affecting successful verbal presentation.
B. Demonstrate verbal presentation team skills.
C. Demonstrate verbal communication of design concept using
storyboard(s).

Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:
Because interior design requires specific, concrete skills, the major
portion of the grade involves hands-on focused projects that demonstrate
the competencies.
Projects/Assignments 90% of grade
Examinations 10% of grade
100%
Grade Criteria:
A = 90 – 100%
B = 80 – 89%
C = 70 – 79%
F = 0 – 69%
A total cumulative score of 70% or higher on exams, assignments and or
projects is required for promotion to other interior studio courses.
Caveats:
- Students will need basic word processing and Internet searching skills for the completion of some papers, exercises and projects.
- Students may be required to take field trips on the specified date as part of the course requirements.
