Description:

Students will learn concepts and use of word processing software on the personal computer. Concepts covered will include creating, saving, printing and editing word processing files; searching and replacing text; creating headers and footers; inserting and resizing graphic images; setting up tables; creating and applying styles; and creating mail merge letters. 1 hr. lecture/wk.

CIS 124 Introduction to Computer Concepts and Applications

or appropriate score on a waiver test

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

  1. Enter, save and print a text file using word processing techniques.
  2. Use the appropriate commands to reformat paragraphs in a report and automatically center titles.
  3. Utilize the spell check capability to find and correct misspelled words in text material.
  4. Choose and display different headings and footings in a document utilizing different pagination formats.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to move and copy blocks of a document.
  6. Explain file specification.
  7. Use the appropriate commands to find text and replace it with other text in a document.
  8. Set typewriter tabs and decimals within a document.
  9. Delete and insert text using special word processing commands.

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:

Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:

Minimum of five projects      60% of grade
Minimum of two examinations   20% of grade
