Description:
In this career-related course, students will create basic
computer-generated illustrations using a variety of techniques on either
the Macintosh or Windows PC computer platform. Students will draw simple
paths and shapes, create layers, import graphics and add typographic
elements in rows and columns with runarounds, baseline shifts and
conversion to outlines. 1 hr. lecture/wk.

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Open artwork files from a CD, the internal hard drive, or from a server
- Make selections of objects
- Draw simple paths
- Construct simple shapes with stroke and fill
- Apply fills and strokes to objects and type
- Create a line drawing with a variety of tools and techniques
- Add and edit anchor points and intersections
- Create layers and move objects to them
- Add guidelines to align artwork
- Specify and edit type attributes
- Import text into a document
- Link text blocks together
- Wrap text around objects
- Convert text to an outline
- Fill text with an imported graphic element

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:
Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:
A minimum of 4 projects 80% of grade
A minimum of 1 examination 20%of grade
100%
Projects will be completed within and printed from the Adobe Illustrator
software program.
Criteria for grades:
90 - 100 = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69 = D
0 - 59 = F
Caveats:
- Computer Literacy Expectations: Students will need basic file management, word processing and Internet searching skills for the completion of the course projects. This knowledge may be acquired through prior experience or by taking one of the JCCC introductory computer courses.
