Description:
In this career-related course, students will create page layout documents
using a variety of basic techniques on either the Macintosh or PC computer
platform. Students will produce text material with complex tabs and
indents and style attributes. Upon successful completion of the course,
students will also be able to group and distribute multiple elements and
demonstrate a basic proficiency with drawing tools, multiple document
work, drop caps, text rotation, locking items and threading text blocks.
1 hr. lecture/wk.

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Create, save and duplicate a new document.
- Import text from other applications.
- Alter typeface, style, point size and leading.
- Use the Pointer and Text tools.
- Use the Control palette.
- Alter the monitor setting for grays and colors.
- Move text from one text block to another.
- Create multiple page documents.
- Sort pages.
- Create specifications for indents and tabs.
- Add specifications for ruled lines.
- Create a baseline shift for a line of type.
- Divide text into multiple columns.
- Link text across multiple text blocks and pages.
- Alter screen magnifications.
- Create a hanging indent.
- Alter margin settings.
- Create custom dashes and stripes.

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:
Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:
A minimum of 5 projects 80% of grade A minimum of 1 exam 20% of grade Total 100% Grading Criteria: A = 90 - 100% B = 80 - 89% C = 70 - 79% D = 60 - 69% F = 0 - 59%
Caveats:
- Computer Literacy Expectations: Students will need basic file management, word processing and Internet searching skills for the completion of the course projects. This knowledge may be acquired through prior experience or by taking one of the JCCC introductory computer courses.
