Description:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to demonstrate word processing skills using such features as macros, styles, tables of contents and indexes, graphics, master and subdocuments, and other advanced features of Microsoft Word. 2 hrs. lecture-demonstration/wk.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the use of special features such as hyphenation, bookmarks, and AutoText.
  2. Create, edit, and run macros.
  3. Use graphic images, borders, and text boxes.
  4. Use drawing objects and tools.
  5. Customize objects and use WordArt.
  6. Create, apply, and work with styles in documents.
  7. Use sort and select feature to manipulate text in columns, paragraphs, and tables.
  8. Create documents using the outline format.
  9. Create and customize forms in documents.
  10. Create tables of contents, indexes, figures, and tables of authorities.
  11. Use features such as master and subdocuments, and shared documents.

Content Outline & Competencies:

I. Enhance the Visual Display of Documents
   A. Use special features to enhance documents including:
      1. Apply hyphenation
      2. Apply line numbering
      3. Apply animation
      4. Apply bookmarks and comments
      5. Create, edit, and run macros
   B. Add borders and insert clip art
   C. Insert pictures and text boxes
   D. Use draw features including:
      1. Create shape and line objects
      2. Customize objects
      3. Create diagrams and organizational charts
   E. Use WordArt and Equation Editor

II. Format Styles
   A. Format and create styles
   B. Modify a style
   C. Format text using the Style Gallery
   D. Format documents using the Auto Format feature

III. Organize Text in Documents
   A. Sort and select text in paragraphs, columns and tables
   B. Sort records in a data source
   C. Create outlines
   D. Create and customize forms
   E. Create tables of contents, indexes, table of figures, and table of
authorities
   F. Create a corss-reference

IV. Advanced Instruction
   A. Open, link, and embed an Excel worksheet in a Word document
   B. Edit a linked worksheet
   C. Modify an embedded Excel worksheet
   D. Import data from an Excel worksheet into a chart
   E. Record, edit, and copy macros
   F. Add comments to documents
   G. Protect and secure documents
   H. Send and route documents
   I. Track changes to a document
   J. Accept/reject changes to a document

   M. Create a master document and subdocuments
   N. Expand, collapse, open, close, rearrange, split, combine, remove,
and rename subdocuments

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:

Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:

Applications  55% of grade 
Tests         45% of grade 
 Total       100% 

   Grading Criteria:
   90 - 100% = A
   80 -  89% = B
   70 -  79% = C
   60 -  69% = D
    0 -  59% = F
