Description:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to
type business letters with special features, memorandums, reports, tables
and a variety of administrative documents. The student should also be able
to use Microsoft Word to complete these activities. 1 hr./wk.

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Format memorandums and letters with special features.
- Apply language arts skills correctly to all documents.
- Format various parts of bound and unbound multi-page report.
- Format tables using a word processing table feature.
- Format specialized reports such as minutes, itineraries, resumes, agendas and fax sheets.
- Format tables within letters, memorandums and reports.
- Format envelopes using U.S. Mail standards.
- Create and format administrative documents using word processing features and templates.
Content Outline & Competencies:
I. Format Letters and Memorandums A. Format block, modified, and simplified letters. B. Prepare letters with special features: subject line, reference line, copy and enclosure notations, and mailing notations. C. Format business envelopes to accompany letters. D. Key and format two-page letters. E. Format short and long memorandums. F. Format memorandums and letters with bullets and numbers. G. Key and format two-page memorandums. H. Prepare letters and memorandums using templates. II. Format Tables A. Create a table using the word processing table function. B. Format a table with enhancements including font size, borders, alignment and shading. C. Modify a table by inserting or deleting rows and columns and/or joining or splitting cells. III. Format Reports A. Format a leftbound and unbound report. B. Format business reports with preliminary pages including the title page and table of contents. C. Prepare a report with footnotes/endnotes. IV. Format Administrative Documents A. Prepare an agenda in correct format. B. Format an itinerary. C. Key and format Action Minutes. D. Format a news release. E. Format a resume using a template.
Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:
Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:
Tests (2) 35% of grade
Projects (4) 65% of grade
TOTAL 100%
Grade Criteria:
90 - 100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
0 - 59% = F
