Description:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to use the beginning features of an operating system and word processing, spreadsheet, database management, presentation graphics, and e-mail programs to prepare and manage documents simulating legal, medical and general business office applications. Proficiency will also be attained in selecting appropriate applications to use and to integrate all of the business computer application programs to complete projects. Document formatting and proofreading will also be introduced. Hands-on, practical projects will be performed to reinforce the concepts taught. 3 hrs. lecture/wk.

  2. Create, format, edit, and print business documents using word processing software.
  3. Create, format, edit, and print business documents using spreadsheet software.
  4. Create, format, edit, and print business documents using database management software.
  5. Create, format, edit, and print business presentations using presentation software.
  6. Create, format, edit, send, receive, reply to, and print e-mail messages.
  7. Use all software programs to complete integrated business projects.

Methods of Evaluation of Competencies:

Evaluation of student mastery of course competencies will be accomplished using the following methods:

Examinations         60% of grade
Projects/Assignments 40% of grade
  Total:            100%

Grade Criteria:
  A = 90 - 100%
  B = 80 -  89%
  C = 70 -  79%
  D = 60 -  69%
  F =  0 -  59%

Caveats:

  1. Students are expected to know how to type/keyboard.
