The student will learn all aspects of phlebotomy in a healthcare setting, including collection procedures, safety guidelines, patient rights, test requirements and equipment basics. The student will be able to accurately perform venous collection, explain the proper steps for collection and identify the supplies needed for collection. Lecture and lab will cover the important areas in anatomy for collecting blood and will cover sites that are restricted in blood collection as well. Lecture and initial clinical work will be held at JCCC. Students who have successfully completed this portion of the course will be assigned a 1:1 rotation with an Olathe Medical Center laboratory staff to complete a 100+ hour clinical training rotation. After successfully passing clinicals and the final exam, the student will be prepared to sit for the national certification test from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (a four hour test preparation class is included in the course). Proof of Hepatitis vaccination, physical exam, seasonal flu shot and TB test are required prior to start of clinical work at Olathe Medical Center. Course fees do not include the testing fee for the national certification exam, a criminal background check, liability insurance, uniforms, books or class supplies. Pharmacy Technician Certification Program

This 300 hour online program prepares students for entry-level pharmacy technician positions. Medical and pharmaceutical terminology, basic anatomy related to the pharmacology of medications and pharmaceutical calculations will be a major component of the coursework. This program provides students the necessary information required to pass the National Certification Exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Students are required to perform clinical rotations (also called an externship) and are based on individual state board requirements. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the pharmacy externship program or they can opt to set up their own externship locally. In the event that clinical sites cannot be found, a research project for each area will be assigned. Textbooks and all necessary materials are included and a three part payment plan is available.
