Financial Aid Timelines

Academic Year Award - Financial aid is awarded for a specific academic year. Every academic year starts with the fall semester, followed by spring and then ending with the summer semester. Students must apply every new academic year by submitting a complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive funds for the following fall, spring and summer semesters.

Following are the dates that provide the Financial Aid Office time to process your application and make funds available in time to protect your enrollment in classes. You can still apply after these dates and receive financial aid, but you may need to pay your tuition and fees yourself to hold your classes until you're awarded your financial aid. By registering for classes at Johnson County Community College (JCCC), you agree to assume financial responsibility for all charges billed to your student account, even if you no longer plan on attending class. Refer to the financial responsibility statement for additional information.

Receiving Aid in Fall and Spring:

• January 1 - The application for JCCC general scholarships and federal aid (FAFSA) first become available for the upcoming fall/spring academic year.
• March 15 - Recommended date to complete your FAFSA for JCCC to receive it by the April 1 priority deadline.
• April 1 – Complete the general scholarship application for the upcoming fall/spring academic year. Also the date that the FAFSA needs to be received to meet the priority deadline.
• June 15 – Submit your FAFSA by this date to be on track to have financial aid in place by the payment deadline for the fall semester. Final high school transcripts or GED transcripts need to be received by this date for financial aid purposes.
• July 1 – Submit all verification documents and any paper work for your outstanding requirements. Also have transcripts sent from all post secondary institutions and received by this date for financial aid purposes. Meet this deadline to stay on track to have financial aid in place by the payment deadline for the fall semester.
• August 1 – If you have not been awarded your financial aid for the upcoming fall/spring academic year, follow up with the Financial Aid Office to determine your status.

Receiving Aid in Spring Only:

• November 1 - You can still complete your FAFSA for upcoming spring semester. Meet this deadline to be on track to have financial aid in place by the payment deadline for the spring semester.
• November 15 - Make sure that you have turned in all verification documents. Meet this deadline to stay on track to have financial aid in place by the payment deadline for the spring semester.
• January 2 - If you have not been awarded your financial aid for the upcoming spring semester, follow up with the Financial Aid Office to determine your status.

Receiving Aid in Summer Only:

• April 1 - You can still complete your FAFSA for upcoming summer semester. Meet this deadline to be on track to have financial aid ready by the payment deadline for the summer semester.
• April 16 - Make sure that you have turned in all verification documents. Meet this deadline to stay on track to have financial aid in place by the payment deadline for the summer semester.

Verification Deadlines

• December 1 – This is the last date to accept verification documents for the fall only term. If December 1 falls on the weekend, the information is due the following Monday.
• May 1 – This is the last date to accept verification documents for the fall/spring term or spring only term. If May 1 falls on the weekend, the information is due the following Monday.
• July 1 – This is the last date to accept verification documents for the fall/spring/summer term or the summer only term. If July 1 falls on the weekend, the information is due the following Monday.

Appeal Deadlines

• May 1 - Last day to submit paperwork for spring semester Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal and Special Circumstance Appeals.
• December 1 - Last day to submit paperwork for fall semester Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal and Special Circumstance Appeals.
