An attitude of gratitude

November 18, 2018

Students share what they’re thankful for this holiday season.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we’re spreading an attitude of gratitude around campus – an undertaking that wouldn’t be possible without YOU! Here’s what some of our students are thankful for:

“I’m thankful for my friends and my coworkers! Every day they make me feel appreciated and I love them oh so much! (I’m also thankful for all the different ways you can eat potatoes.) 😋😂 - Victoria Yslas

“I am so thankful for my family who always supports me through everything I do in my life. I am also thankful for being able to visit different countries this summer, for all the help that I get at JCCC, and for professors that I consider a second family to me.” - Rachida Mohammed Seghir

“I’m thankful that I’m making decent grades this year and for my family.” - Delshaun Smith

“I am an international student and I am very thankful to be a part of JCCC. It will always be close to my heart. ❤💯” - Vahishta Chothia

“I’m grateful for my host family and my family back home in Costa Rica. I also appreciate the opportunities available at JCCC. I didn’t know anyone in Kansas City when I was first here, but I was able to meet people through the Honors Program and my job as a Student Activities Ambassador, which is the perfect fit for me. I’m also thankful for food.” - Pedro Slon

“I am very thankful for my family and friends! Especially for my brother's service in the military!” - Olivia Miller

“I came to the United States three years ago. At first it was hard for me to manage school, working, cultural differences and the language barrier. But now I feel like my life is stable and I’m more relaxed. I am so thankful for my host family. I am able to rely on them – they are generous and nice people.” - Jinjo Hwang

“I am thankful for my amazing mom!” - Caleb Durland

“I’m grateful for the great academic support I get from Professor Dianna Rottinghaus. She is always concerned about my progress and helps me when I need it! And I just am beyond grateful for my job at HCDC! If I go to work sad or frustrated, I always leave the building with a smile 😃! And I can’t forget the awesome math tutors – they are great!” - Shela Pierre Noel

“I’m thankful for the education, job and community I have from JCCC. The professors, staff and friends I've made here have been life changing and I can say I'm eternally grateful.” - Adara Handley

“I am thankful for all the wonderful friends I have met this year.” - Tristan Case

As for us? We’re grateful for so much, including you. Without the support of our great students, faculty, staff and community, we wouldn’t be able to make so many educational dreams a reality.

As we strive to pay it forward, we want to let you know about JCCC Gives, an initiative led by Student Senate that makes the season bright for Cavaliers in need. “Dear Santa Wish Lists” are located on a Giving Tree in Student Center 334, with new nominations added as they arrive. You can donate a gift by Thursday, Dec. 6, or provide monetary donations online by Friday, Dec. 7.

Happy giving!
