Dr. Lee Pelton, current president of Emerson College, a Wichita native and unswerving and passionate defender of the power of a liberal education, visits campus.

A dynamic and motivational speaker, Pelton inspires and challenges his audiences to engage in the world around them and to confront problems in our society so they can become agents of social change.

Growing up in a diverse but segregated neighborhood in Wichita, Pelton’s grandmother began his lifelong quest for knowledge and his commitment to bettering his communities through the lessons of a liberal education. She taught him to study the problems he encounters then to question, to discuss and to examine them from all angles for the benefit of society.

Pelton’s visit, sponsored by the JCCC English Department, is part of the 2016 JCCC Common Read, “In Defense of a Liberal Education” by Fareed Zakaria.
