Dental Hygiene Admission Requirements
Prerequisites
You must complete two (2) prerequisite courses by the end of the fall semester in which you apply to the program. All must be completed to begin the program.
Note: If you took chemistry or biology more than five years ago, you must take the courses again.
Prerequisite 1 (choose one):
- CHEM 122
- BIOL 140
- BIOL 230/231
Prerequisite 2 (choose one):
- ENGL 121
- PSYC 130
Academic Criteria
High school students with fewer than 12 semester hours of college credit must have ONE of the following:
- 3.0 cumulative GPA
- ACT composite standard score of 20 or higher
- ACT science reasoning score of 23 or higher
College students with a minimum of 12 semester hours of college credit must have ONE of the following:
- 2.8 cumulative G.P.A
- ACT composite standard score of 20 or higher
- ACT science reasoning score of 23 or higher
GED exam completers with fewer than 12 semester hours of college credit must have ONE of the following:
- GED standard score of 58 or higher
- ACT composite standard score of 20 or higher
- ACT science reasoning score of 23 or higher
Health and Training Certification
If selected to the program you must obtain the following:
- Background check through the designated company. Contact the dental hygiene office for details.
- Annual CPR for Health Care Provider certification (available from JCCC's Continuing Education division).
- Current physical examination and documentation of immunizations
- Annual tuberculosis (TB) skin test and required vaccinations.
