Degree and Certificate Options

Degree Options

JCCC offers a variety of degrees, certificates and transfer programs for students. Deciding what path is right for you can be tricky. A counselor can help navigate you through this process.

There are four different degrees offered at JCCC.

  • Associate of Arts (AA) - This is considered the most flexible degree because it offers the student electives that can be tailored to match a plan for transferring to a university.
  • Associate of Science (AS) - This is specific to only two of our career programs and must contain 12 credit hours in the math and science area. We do not offer a general Associate of Science degree. Please check our degree certificate program list to see what is offered. Transferability of the AS degrees to a 4-year school is limited. See a JCCC counselor for more information.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) - This type of degree is specific to the career programs listed and contains a high number of specific courses designed to make the student employable in an industry-oriented profession. Transferability of the AAS degrees to a 4-year school is limited. See a JCCC counselor for more information.
  • Associate of General Studies (AGS) - The AGS has been created for the student who does not plan to transfer to a traditional baccalaureate institution but wishes to receive recognition for the completion of a more general program of study.

The college also offers certificates of varying credit hours for many of its career programs. Students who want to focus on adding new skill areas without the time needed to complete a degree may find completing a certificate a good plan. For many certificates, the credit hours used to achieve it will apply toward related AAS.

Which Courses Are Required for Your Degree?

Look at the JCCC catalog for requirements for JCCC degrees and/or certificates. If you plan to transfer to get a bachelor’s degree, check the transfer program guides.  If you don't find the major you're looking for, talk to a JCCC counselor.

Seeking a Bachelor's Degree?

JCCC does not offer bachelor's degrees, but the college does have transfer agreements with many four-year schools.
