Cosmetology Application Process
Deadline to Apply
Priority deadlines are:- Oct. 17 for the spring semester
- Feb. 15 for the summer session
- April 15 for the fall semester
Applications accepted after priority deadlines are based on availability. You must be able to enroll and pay for tuition, books and kit in full the day before classes start.
You should apply for financial aid at least two months before the semester begins; therefore, we recommend you apply prior to officially being accepted to the cosmetology program.
Application Process
1. Complete the cosmetology application form, included in the packet.
- Be sure to retain the PIN that you indicate on your Cosmetology application.
- Official high school or GED scores must be included.
- All foreign transcripts must be translated by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. , (ECE), 414-289-3400, before the priority deadline. The Kansas State Board of Cosmetology will not accept translation from any other company.

2. Take the COMPASS test, which is a reading comprehension test with no time limitations. There is no cost for the test. You must score 64 or higher for reading. After you submit your application, you will be able to take the test. You may take the test in the through Testing Services, located on the third loor of the Student Center at the main campus, 12345 College Blvd. Overland Park, Kan.
3. It is your responsibility to make sure all requirements are met by the deadline date. We strongly recommend that you submit the application first, well in advance of the deadline. Only those who have a complete application on file (application, COMPASS score and required official transcripts) will get an interview. You will be called to schedule an interview with the JCCC staff within one month after the priority deadline date.
4. Financial aid is available for cosmetology students. Contact the Financial Aid office at 913-469-3840 or go to the Student Success Center, located on the second floor of the Student Center. Late applicants must be prepared to pay tuition and fees by the payment deadline.
5. If you have applied before and not been accepted, you must submit a new application. You will be considered a first-time applicant. You will be notified of any information missing from your file.
