Her advocacy on behalf of immigrant youth has been recognized with the Mexican Consulate's Ohtli Award, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Humanitarian of the Year, and Missouri Lawyer's Weekly's Up and Coming Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. For more than 10 years, she has worked tirelessly to open doors for immigrant students to attend college in Missouri.

Ms. Piedra is originally from the Olathe, Kansas, area, where she assisted in founding what is now the JCCC ESL program while still in high school. She went to college at DePaul University in Chicago, spending her last semester at the University of Yucatan in Merida, Mexico. After graduating from UMKC School of Law, she began working for Legal Aid of Western Missouri helping immigrants with their tax issues. Later, she returned to immigration law and then launched her own firm in April 2016. She speaks fluent Spanish and has been through the immigration process with her own family.
