Kathleen Blake Yancey is the Kellogg W. Hunt Professor of English and Distinguished Research Professor at Florida State University and former president of National Council of Teachers of English. Her research focuses on composition studies, students' transfer of writing knowledge and practice, creative nonfiction, cultural studies of everyday writing, writing assessment, and the intersections of culture, literacy and technologies.

Kevin Rabas chairs the Department of English, Modern Languages, and Journalism at Emporia State University and leads the poetry and playwriting tracks. He has written nine books: Bird’s Horn & Other Poems; Lisa’s Flying Electric Piano, a Kansas Notable Book and Nelson Poetry Book Award winner; Sonny Kenner’s Red Guitar, also a Nelson Poetry Book Award winner; Green Bike; Eliot’s Violin; Spider Face; Songs for My Father: A Collection of Poems & Stories; All That Jazz; and Late for Cymbal Line. Rabas will open the conference by reading select poems and briefly explaining the role of Kansas Poet Laureate.
