Region Championships

Johnson County Community College has amassed 121 NJCAA Region VI titles. The Cavalier men’s baseball team, in just its second year of existence, won the school’s first region crown in 1974. Coached by JCCC Hall of Famer Sonny Maynard and led by All-American pitcher Bob Downs and All-American infielder Mark Balderston, the Cavaliers posted a 33-7 record, and finished the season ranked 13th in the nation. The softball program has compiled the most overall region championships. Since its first title in 1979, the programs have held the trophy a total of 17 times. The men’s soccer team is a close second with 14 titles, followed by the women's basketball team with 13, volleyball with 12 and men's tennis with 11. The women’s basketball team has a string of 13 straight entering the 2012-13 season. The women’s soccer team has the most titles of any team in Region VI. In 2011-12, the women's cross country and track teams completed a region triple crown, winning the cross country, indoor track and outdoor track titles in the same season, a first in team history.
