Conference Championships

In addition to 10 NJCAA National Championships and 121 Region titles, Johnson County Community College has amassed 156 Kansas Jayhawk Conference titles. The Cavalier men’s basketball team, in just its third year of existence, won the school’s first conference crown in 1972. Coached by JCCC Hall of Famer Orville Gregory and led in scoring by Deon Kayhill (17.7 ppg), JCCC finished 23-9 overall. Kayhill also became the first athlete in school history to be selected a NJCAA All-American. The volleyball program claimed its first conference title in 1981. Since that season, the JCCC volleyball team has claimed 20 championships, more than any other team in the East Jayhawk Conference. The men’s and women’s cross country and track teams also have the most titles. Eleven times in the program’s history the Cavaliers have captured the triple crown, winning the conference title in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during the same year. The women have captured six triple crowns, and the men five. Both teams won three straight triple crowns from the fall of 1996 through the spring of 1999.
