15th season at JCCC

Jimmy Perez, a former player under Fatai Ayoade, returns for his 15th season as a member of the JCCC soccer staff. Perez, assists head coach Fatai Ayoade in areas of academics, recruiting and on-the-field coaching duties. In addition to his coaching duties, Perez helps coordinate the highly successful JCCC summer soccer camps. He holds an NSCAA Advanced National License.

Perez has played a key role in the team’s success under Ayoade, as both a coach and player. In his 14 years on staff, JCCC has posted a 149-117-18 mark, won three Kansas Jayhawk Conference championships, a Region VI title, a District title, and placed fifth in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Perez has been instrumental in the recruiting effort that has brought in some outstanding talent to the Cavaliers soccer program. Perez has helped coach two players who achieved NJCAA All-America honors, two NSCAA All-American, 36 All-Region VI selections and 77 All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference performers, including 2016 KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year Preston Mboob.

Perez has experience with Ayoade and the JCCC soccer program as a player as well, serving two seasons in 2000 and 2001. His sophomore season, Perez garnered All-Region VI accolades while helping JCCC to Region VI and District titles and a third-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament, the highest finish in team history. Perez scored the first goal in each of JCCC’s championship games, including the game-winner in the Cavaliers’ 3-0 win over East Central College in the District finals. On the season, Perez was the team’s second leading scorer with 26 points, on 10 goals and six assists. Two of his six assists came on game-winning goals. He also posted a shot percentage of .294, the second-best on the team.

Perez closed out his career with 46 total points and 20 career goals. Both totals currently rank among the top-15 all-time in team history. His 46 points rank tied for 12th, and his 20 career goals are tied for the 10th-best career mark in JCCC soccer history.

Following his career at JCCC, Perez went to Park University, but an injury early in fall practices forced him to end his playing career. He returned to JCCC the next season in his current capacity. He also is currently coach of the KC United club soccer team.
