Cindy RoachCindy Roach was a three-sport athlete at JCCC competing in softball, basketball and volleyball. On the softball field, Roach became the third player in the program’s history to earn All-American, and the first to player to appear in two national tournaments for JCCC. During her career, Roach helped JCCC to fourth-place and eighth-place finishes in the NJCAA Tournament, while compiling an impressive 71-27 record during the 1979 and 1980 seasons. As a basketball player, Roach helped JCCC to a school record 13 wins in 1978-79, then helped break that mark with 17 wins in 1979-80, while producing the first winning season in the program’s history. In volleyball, Roach helped her team to back-to-back 20-win seasons. Her freshman year, JCCC won a record 20 matches, and a year later set a record with 21 wins. Roach went on to play softball at the University of Kansas. In 1985, Roach was hired as a physical education teacher and coach at Shawnee Mission Northwest. While there, she led the softball team to three Kansas 6A State Championships, and the volleyball team to one state title in 1988. Currently, Roach is an assistant principal and athletic director at Blue Valley West High School. She is also a Certified Athletic Administrator, served on the KSHSAA Board of Directors from 2004-08, and served as a high school volleyball official from 1995-02.
