Harlem Quartet advances diversity in classical music while engaging new audiences with varied repertoire that includes works by minority composers. Their mission to share their passion with a wider audience has taken them around the world.

The Carlsen Center Arts Education is pleased to host the Heartland Chamber Music Festival at the Carlsen Center-JCCC. The summer festival is an exciting nine days of chamber music, orchestra, master classes, and student, faculty and guest performances!

Student participants are advanced string players ages 7-26 who come from around the country to study with internationally renowned faculty members while having fun with their musical peers. As part of the intense training students receive, each year we host a resident quartet who works directly with the festival students. This year, the Harlem Quartet will spend 16 hours mentoring and imparting their knowledge and professional expertise on these young students.

The Quartet will perform music from Mozart to Dizzy Gillespie plus an original composition by Guido López-Gavilán.

The musically versatile ensemble has performed with such distinguished performers as Itzhak Perlman, Ida Kavafian, Carter Brey, Fred Sherry, Misha Dicter, Jeremy Denk and Paquito D'Rivera.
