ProStart® Agreements

ProStart® is a nationwide, two-year high school program that unites the classroom and industry to develop the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice leaders. 

For all students who have met the national Pro Start requirements and can provide the required documentation, the following credits will be awarded on your Johnson County Community College transcript at no cost.

Class Requirements
HMGT 120 Food Service Sanitation (1 credit) Manager's level ServSafe certificate (no more than two years old)
HMGT 121 Perspectives of Hospitality Management (3 credits) ProStart certificate (no more than two years old)
HMGT 123 Professional Cooking
(3 credits)
Credit by Exams and in addition to passing the written proficiency tests (3-4 plus final), passing a hands-on practical test administered in the kitchen is also required. Students must talk to Ona Ashley, Director of Hospitality Management, first (469-8500, ext 4160). Testing will be written and practical. Written test ordered and administered in JCCC Testing Center. After passing the written test, students must schedule the practical exam with the department. Students will be responsible for the practical examination food.
