Loan Counseling and Promissory Note


Direct Loan Master Promissory Note

You must complete and electronically sign a master promissory note for any federal Direct Loan. This is your agreement with the U.S. Department of Education that you will repay your loan.

When completing your  master promissory note, you will need to have the contact information for two references, then follow these steps.

  1. Go to the Federal Student Aid Direct Loans website.
  2. Login by entering your FSA ID username and password.
  3. Select  the link, "Complete A Master Promissory Note."
  4. Print a copy of your confirmation page for your records. The JCCC Financial Aid Office is notified electronically once you complete your counseling online. 

Direct Loan Entrance Counseling

Direct Loan entrance counseling is only required one time. 

You must complete entrance counseling to receive direct loan funds.

  1. Go to the Federal Student Aid Direct Loans website.
  2. Login by entering your FSA ID username and password.
  3. Select the link, "Complete Counseling" then select, "Start Entrance Counseling."
  4. Print a copy of your confirmation page for your records. The JCCC Financial Aid Office is notified electronically once you complete this counseling online.

Direct Loan Exit Counseling

The Federal Student Aid Student Loans website provides an overview of the Exit Counseling process. 

  1. Go to the Federal Student Aid Direct Loans website.
  2. Login by entering your FSA ID username and password.
  3. Select the link, "Complete Counseling" then select, "Start Exit Counseling."
  4. Print a copy of your confirmation page for your records. The JCCC Financial Aid Office is notified electronically once you complete this counseling online.
