How to Apply - Practical Nurse Program

The LPN program is a selective admission program.

You must meet the admission criteria before applying. If you have applied before and were not selected, you must reapply as before.

The Full Time Day LPN application will be available in January with a March 15 deadline (4 p.m. CST).

New JCCC Students:

Prospective LPN students who have not attended JCCC before (or if it has been more than two years since you last attended) must complete a JCCC application for admission. The application is the first step in the enrollment process; select Non-Degree Seeking or Liberal Arts for your major. Please select the Summer/Fall 2018 term.

After you receive your JCCC ID number, follow the steps below. It may take 5 business days for your application to be processed; please email Admissions if you apply to the program within 10 days of the posted deadline.

Current JCCC Students:

  1. Complete the Fall 2018 Full Time LPN application.
  2. Arrange for official transcripts to be sent directly to JCCC from all previous college you have attended. It is not necessary to request JCCC transcripts or transcripts already on file at JCCC. Your transcripts must demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible for admission to the program.
  3. Submit the Disclosure and Consent for Background Check form.
  4. Submit your current Kansas CNA verification; it must be valid by the first day of class.
  5. Take the Kaplan test. A minimum score of 70% or higher in Math and Reading is required. Science scores will be noted in your record and may be used by the department for ranking if necessary.
  6. Monitor your personal admission plan on your MyJCCC account for information on your application status.

All applicants who have met the requirements and have complete applications, will be scheduled for an interview with program director and a counselor. The interview process will involve review of academic preparation, related healthcare experience, skill development, and personal characteristics relevant to student success in the program.

Final selection will be based upon the following total ranking criteria of each applicant:

  • Kaplan scores - 60%
  • Interview - 40%

Upon completion of all interviews and ranking, applicants will be notified by certified mail if they have been accepted into the program. Those candidates not initially chosen for positions will be notified of their program status through regular mail.
