What is competency based education?
The competency-based education (CBE) format allows you to advance based on your ability to master skills or competencies at your own pace. It measures learning rather than time. You progress by demonstrating that you have mastered the knowledge and skills required for a particular course.
What are competencies?
Competencies are statements that describes the desired knowledge, skills, and behaviors of a student completing a course.
IT 120 and ELEC 186 are part of the CompTIA A+ certification which is a benchmark widely used for entry level IT jobs. We recommend that you complete both courses.
You will be prepared to pursue the industry certification using a testing center available on campus.
When you've taken both ELEC 186 and IT 120 in one semester, you will receive two vouchers to attempt the A+ Certification exams.
Who should enroll?
Personalized IT students need to be highly motivated and comfortable learning independently. The courses are not traditional, and your grade will be based solely on assessments. Entry into a CBE course requires department approval. Students who have prior IT work experience or earned college credit are good candidates.
