Staff Instructor – Criminal Law, Traffic Enforcement, Patrol Procedures and Scenario-Based Training
Officer Travis Meats began his career with the Ottawa Kansas Police Department in 1997 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in crime and delinquency and sociology from the University of Kansas. In 1999 he came to work for the Shawnee Police Department. While at Shawnee, Officer Meats has been a field training officer, TASER instructor and less lethal munitions instructor. He is currently the training officer and a member of the tactical team for the department.
Officer Meats was assigned as a full time staff instructor in 2011. He instructs alcohol beverage control law, traffic stops, patrol procedures and is responsible for the scenario-based training. He also assists with active shooter and TASER training.
