The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face sections: Classroom presentations using PowerPoint slides from textbooks and supplemental sources. Writings and drawings on white board for class notes happens occasionally. Hard-copy handouts are prepared for students. Teaching materials are available to students on an online site (Desire2Learn). Emphasis is on conceptual understanding of biological concepts and memorization of fundamental biological facts.

Resource Use

Textbooks: A textbook required for this course. It is used as the key resource for reading, conceptual understanding and illustration demonstration. All lecture materials are based on the textbook, including contents and illustrations.

Online homework: Available to students once they are ready. Meantime, hard copies are also provided.


Homework is graded and counted for the final grade. There are six exams throughout the semester to access students’ understanding of the course materials. Lab contents are included in the exams. Exam points are weighted 75% and homework 25% of the course grade.

Homework Policy

Complete within a week from the day of issue.

Attendance Policy

Good attendance is encouraged by additional homework assignments, extra credit work assignments and even participation points.


I am an adjunct faculty member and am not on campus all the time. I meet with students on appointment-only basis. Most questions are answered during and immediately after class.
