The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face to Face Classes: Discussion and questions on previous material; introduction of new material by lecturing, small groups, or discovery methods. Some courses have class notes or in-class worksheets.

Online Classes: Must use online textbook/software and Desire2Learn required. Student must have a home computer and good computer skills.

Resource Use

Book: Limited
Calculator: Limited
Software: Extensive

Face to Face classes will use online textbook/software called MyMathLab to do homework and quizzes. You can use this online software in the Math Resource Center computer room or OCB 304 computer lab or on your home computer. Online classes will use an online software/textbook called Plato ASAlgebra. Students must have their own computer. Plato ASAlgebra program is not compatible with MAC computers. Math 111 and Math 115 students are only allowed to use scientific calculators on exams and are not allowed to use graphing calculators.

Grades are usually based on in-class tests (4 to 8), homework, quizzes, daily work and projects. Grades are based on categories. Homework, daily work and quizzes are about 20 -25% of your grade. In-class or proctored exams are worth 75- 80% of your grade. Final grade is determined using the standard grading scale: A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% No make-up exams. Face to face students are allowed to miss one exam per semester. The grade for this exam will be determined by the final exam percentage. You may make arrangements to take a test early in the testing center if you are unable to attend class on the test date. There will be no more than 10 points of extra credit in all courses.

Homework Policy

Face to Face: MyMathLab homework and quizzes are assigned daily and are usually due at class time on the day of the exam. You have unlimited re-takes to complete each assignment. These assignments will be 15 -20 % of your class grade. No late homework is accepted.

Online: ASA evaluations are allowed to be late for half credit. Instructor graded homework will be accepted only a week late.

Attendance Policy

Face to Face: Strongly recommend that you attend regularly. Daily work will be worth 5 - 10% of your grade. Most students who have poor attendance will earn a lower grade. You are responsible for learning material covered during your absence. Class time will not be used to teach the material that you have missed. MyMathLab videos and resources, Math Resource Center, or visiting me during office hours would be appropriate ways of learning missed material.

Online students should work on assignments in Academic Systems and log on to Desire2Learn daily.
