The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face sections involve lectures and group discussions, as well as laboratories. Student participation is highly encouraged in both.

Resource Use

Textbooks supplement the face-to-face lectures. Typically, electronic texts are sufficient for courses, with an option of purchasing paper texts for those who prefer them. The textbook examples and tables are frequently referenced in class. Textbook homework is not assigned in this course, as all homework is assigned online.

Calculators are used in every course. Calculators must have trigonometric functions and powers, but otherwise there is no specific requirement for the calculator. Calculators are expected to be brought to class for every lecture, lab and exam.

Computer software, whenever needed, is required for labs. The specific software, “Graphical Analysis,” will be taught as part of the lab section of this course.

Online homework is used extensively in all courses. It is assigned weekly.

Classes have homework, labs, some in-class work, three to four midterm exams and a comprehensive final exam. Summer courses frequently replace midterm exams with weekly quizzes.

Homework Policy

Due to fairness considerations, late work is NOT accepted.

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding. However, absences are NOT part of the grading formula. Missed labs may not be made up, though one lab is dropped to account for an emergency. Missed exams will receive a score of zero, unless prior arrangements are made.

I check email frequently throughout the day and will be available before and after class to answer questions. Meetings at other times can be arranged upon request.
