The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face sections begin with an opportunity to ask questions about previously assigned homework.  A lecture over new material follows, during which reference to previous knowledge is stressed.  Examples are worked and terminology is explained.  Student participation is encouraged.

Resource Use

Textbooks are considered optional because an online component is required in which an e-book is included.  However, many students opt to buy the hard copy of the book as well since lectures are based on the textbook sections and homework problems.

Calculators are required.  The type of calculator required depends on the course taken.

Computer software is required in order to complete the online homework.  An e-book is included.

Online homework is required in every course.  Homework is not handed in on paper.

Assessment

Assessment is done through online homework (usually 100 points), quizzes (100 points), 3-5 tests (100 points each), and a final exam (about 200 points).

Homework Policy

Late homework is not accepted for credit.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is taken every class day but does not contribute to the semester grade.  Students are expected to know about all announcement made in class.  One makeup test is allowed per semester as long as a mutually agreeable time can be found.

Availability

I am available before and after class and by special appointment.
