The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-Face sections are mostly lecture with notes, examples and student in class collaboration.

Online sections will require students to follow a weekly schedule to stay on track. Communications will be via email. I am accessible to students daily via email. Students are encouraged to make appointments for one-on-one help.

Self-paced sections allow students to take up to 9 months to finish the course using a self-study format to pace themselves through the course material.

Resource Use

Textbooks are essential in any course. In my face-to-face classes they are more supplemental. For 111,115,116 and 171 will primarily be eBooks provided by MyMathLab; however book purchase or rental are optional if students desires a hard copy.

Calculators are used in every course. For 111, 115, 116 a scientific calculator is allowed. For 171 a graphing calculator is recommended but not required.

Computer software MyMathLab is used for online homework, eBook and section lecture videos. Al software used is also available in the Math Resource Center.

Online homework is used extensively in all classes. MyMathLab is used for instant feedback.

Assessment in all classes is based on 5 or 6 unit exams, homework and a comprehensive final exam.

Self-paced and online: All test are taken in an approved proctored testing facility.

Roughly 80% of grade will be determined by unit and final exams, and 20% by the homework.

Homework Policy

Homework will be completed online in MyMathLab. For online courses late homework has a 10% penalty.

For self-paced homework is completed at your chosen pace within the 9 month deadline.

Attendance Policy

Self-paced: There is no attendance.

Online: Specific homework must be completed by a specified date to verify activity for attendance.

Face-to-Face: Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding. However, absences are NOT part of the grading formula. Makeup unit exams are not given after the exam date. The final exam percentage will replace any missed unit exam.

My schedule varies because of my college off-campus responsibilities. I am available Monday–Friday for students to meet with me, even after 5 p.m. some days. Appointments are highly recommended for these reasons. You can reach me via email anytime; normally you can expect a response in a timely manner daily.
