Class Format

Face-to-face sections
These Anatomy & Physiology classes generally meet three times per week and have the greatest amount of contact with the instructor. Time in these classes is split roughly equally between lecture and lab activities.

Hybrid sections
These Anatomy & Physiology classes meet eight times during the semester. During class meetings there is a substantial portion of time devoted to familiarizing students with the anatomical models they will see on the exams. These classes are very useful for students who would not be able to come to campus three times per week but are motivated enough to study on their own and are able to come to the open lab on evenings and weekends to prepare for exams.

Online sections
In these pathophysiology classes, all the material (recorded lectures, etc.) is online. The tests are online as well. Exams are taken in the testing center. There is no required contact with the instructor. This is a great class if you are very motivated and able to have sufficient discipline to prepare for the exams.

Resource Use

Textbooks
Anatomy & Physiology classes make extensive use of the textbook.
Pathophysiology classes make extensive use of the textbook.

Online homework
Although there is not online homework in Anatomy & Physiology classes, students are strongly encouraged to make use of online resources in completing their study guides, which account for 10% of the grade.

Likewise, there is not online homework in pathophysiology, but students are strongly encouraged to make use of online resources in completing their study guides, which account for 10% of the grade.

Assessment

For face-to-face and hybrid Anatomy & Physiology classes, grades are determined based upon two types of exams: Written and practical. For the written exams, you will see multiple choice questions. For the practical, there will be labeled models based upon lists of structures.

For online pathophysiology, exams are multiple choice and are taken in the JCCC testing center.

Homework Policy

For both face-to-face and hybrid Anatomy & Physiology classes, a study guide is completed that is 10% of the grade.

For online pathophysiology, a study guide is completed that is 10% of the grade.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is mandatory for all eight meetings of hybrid sections.

For face-to-face classes, attendance is strongly encouraged as it is very highly correlated with doing well in the class.

For online classes the exams are available for a specified window of time. “Attendance” in these classes means taking the exams within this window.
