The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-Face Sections
My lectures include reviewing basic concepts, lots of examples, and some student group problem solving.  The emphasis is on students understanding the concepts and being able to apply them.

Resource Use

A scientific calculator is required; it can be a simple one or a fancy graphing type.

Computer Software
Some specialized software is used in lab and sometimes in lecture.  Students are shown how to use this software as needed, and the computers are provided.

Online Homework
Not Applicable

The textbook is a supplement to the lectures and homework is assigned out of the text, some of which is graded.

There will be quizzes, and of course exams, with the final exam being comprehensive.

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned, some of it is graded, and students rarely do well on the exams if they do not do all of the homework.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is expected, and as with the homework, students rarely do well on the exams if they do not attend regularly.  And not just showing up: class participation and working on problems with other students is expected.

I of course have official office hours, but I am here on campus far more than that, and if not too busy I am happy to help students at these other times.  I also usually respond to email the same day if it arrives while I am on campus (immediately if I am not too busy), and usually no later than the next day if I am not on campus – though weekend emails sometimes don’t get answered until Monday.
