The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-Face. In-class discussion and group activities will be based on weekly reading assignments.

Resource Use

• “Nutrition for Healthy Living” by Wendy J. Shiff, Third edition or higher.
• Free online diet analysis software will be utilized for a project.
• A simple calculator will be needed for limited use.
• PowerPoint lectures and other class materials uploaded to BIOL 110 – Nutrition for Life course page accessible on D2L.


• Exams: There will be 3 in-class exams (50 points each). Exams, quizzes, and assignments are expected to be done on or by designated dates on written on course outline and cannot be made up.
• Quizzes: 12 in-class or take-home quizzes (10 points each, lowest two scores dropped).
• Assignments:

o Nutrition Diet Analysis Project (100 points)
o 3 smaller class assignments (10 points each)

Assignments are due at the beginning of class on designated due date.

Homework Policy

Make-up Policy: No late assignments will be accepted except in the case of an emergency. Students who must miss a quiz or exam due to an emergency such as illness or family emergency should notify the instructor as soon as possible and make prior arrangements with instructor. Make-up exams and quizzes will be given at the discretion of the instructor.

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend and participate in all scheduled class meetings. Most class periods will have an exam, quiz or in-class assignment that students will not be able to make up without prior approval or unless in emergency situations. It is the student’s responsibility to get any information that is missed and reschedule any exam that may be missed in accordance with make-up policy.
