Homework Policy

Quizzes/homework:

There will be a number of quizzes given during the semester. To receive credit for a quiz, a student must be present at the time that the quiz is handed out in class as well as the day that it is due. The quizzes will include topics covered recently in class. Quizzes will be take-home quizzes from topics covered in the class. Quizzes will NOT be shared with students who were not in attendance at the class in which the quiz was handed out. They are due at the beginning of the next class period.  Late quizzes will not be accepted. Quizzes will not be accepted via email for students who were not in attendance. Quizzes may not be turned in for a student who is not in attendance by another student who is in attendance when the quiz is due. Quizzes may be obtained from the instructor in the event that a student misses class to further the student's understanding of the course material; however, the student will receive no points for the quiz.

Homework:

The OWL system will be utilized for homework assignments. Assignments and the date on which they are due will be announced at the beginning of the chapter.  Assignment due dates are also listed on the course schedule. OWL deadlines will not be extended unless the material for the chapter is not covered in the time scheduled.

Attendance Policy

Lecture:  All students in attendance must be officially registered for the course; there is no late enrollment.

Attendance is not only vital to understanding the concepts that will be covered in class, but also will be used as a homework score (the total attendance points obtained as a percentage of the total points possible for attendance).  Each student is responsible for signing the attendance sheet at the beginning of the class period.  If a student is late to class, it is the student’s responsibility to ask the instructor for the sign-in sheet.  If a student does not sign the attendance sheet, he will be considered absent and will not receive the points for that attendance.  Each class period is worth 2 attendance points.  If a student is tardy, he will receive only 1 attendance point.  Please note that the classroom door is locked at the beginning of class.  If you are late you must knock and identify yourself before the door will be opened.

Lab: Regular laboratory attendance is essential. Missing a lab should be avoided if at all possible.

  1. Students are expected to attend the lab section for which they are enrolled. Exceptions require prior approval of the instructor.
  2. There is no make-up lab.  Laboratory work can be made up during another lab period if there is space. The experiment must be made up within the week it is scheduled. Make arrangements through your instructor. A schedule of CHEM 125 lab times will be posted in SCI 211 or available by consulting your instructor.
  3. You will receive no points for a lab that is missed. You cannot get credit for a lab that you did not do.
  4. Students who are late and miss the prelab lecture will not be admitted to the pre-lab lecture will not be admitted to the lab and must make arrangements to make up the lab if possible.
