The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

I combine lectures, examples, and classwork into class to maximize understanding. I have students try problems in class to make sure material is learned. Student interaction is encouraged. I provide prepared notes in some classes.

Resource Use

Book: Extensive
Calculator: Extensive
Software: Extensive

Resources used depend on class:

  • Face-to-face Math 111-116, 171, and 181: MyMathLab or MyStatLab software is used with limited book material
    • calculator required for 111-116
    • graphing calculator required for 171 and 181.
  • Online 111-116: Academic Systems; Online 171 & 181: Hawkes Learning System software is used with material from the text book; graphing calculator required
  • Other classes: Book used for reading and problems, limited software, calculator required (175 & above uses a graphing calculator).

Three-five tests will be given throughout the semester. Quizzes are given as needed. Required departmental final exam at end of semester for every class. Homework, classwork, projects, and reviews vary by class.

Homework Policy

Homework depends on class: If computer software is used (see resource use above), homework will be on computer. Some classes will have homework in the form of daily and/or topic worksheets and/or reviews for tests.

Attendance Policy

I take attendance daily, but it does not count specifically towards the grade. Any in-class work missed may not be made up.

The best way to reach me is by email, through Desire2Learn, or through the software for online classes. I check it at least once a day, and at least once over the weekend. I have office hours by arrangement, days differ by semester, but please don't be afraid to ask!
