The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

This is a hybrid class, face-to-face and online. Lab sessions are mandatory and will meet twice a week. The lecture for this section will be conducted online. Exams will be taken in the Testing Center, SC 334. Students are required to complete online orientation.

Resource Use

Online lecture, textbook and online resources. The textbook is Biology by Reese et al., 9th edition. Online homework will be required.

Assessment

Exams: 4 closed-book exams given in SC 334 – 50%

Labs – conducted in RC 345 – 35%

Essays – Four short essays (100 to 150 words) about a topic relevant to the material being studied will be submitted electronically. Each will be worth 100 points and has a specific due date. A grading rubric will be provided to assist you in writing the essays. You will have six opportunities to submit essays. If you submit more than four, the top four scores will be used. All rules regarding required essays will be followed. – 15%

Homework Policy

  • Most labs will be completed and submitted on the day of the lab. A few will be submitted electronically within two days of the completed lab experience.
  • All essays will be submitted electronically by the specified date. If you are satisfied with your scores on the first four you will not need to turn in the last two.

Attendance Policy

  • Lab attendance is required.
  • Tests must be completed within a specified window in the Testing Center, SC 334.
