Class Format

Face-to-face sections

Lecture Format, with PowerPoint presentation.

“Clicker” quiz questions embedded in the power point presentation. It is not required to purchase the “clickers”. They are provided for class use.

Resource Use

Textbooks and/or handouts.

Most recently I have been experimenting with reading handouts only, so textbook purchase will not be required in the near future.

A lab manual is required to be purchased for all sections of BIOL 121.

I also will provide the “clickers” that are used in my classes.

All exams are Multiple Choice format.

No term papers are required.

No oral presentations are required.

The majority of assessment will come from the “clicker” quizzes and the multiple choice lecture and lab exams.

Homework Policy

The homework that is assigned is mainly for students to complete the Study Guide for studying for the exams. Answers to Study Guides are given during lecture, or are found in the readings that are assigned.

Attendance Policy

Quiz points using “clickers” are collected on a regular basis, so poor attendance could adversely affect that component of your overall score.

Each semester I have 5 hours each week that are assigned office hours, but I always have numerous other time frames that can easily be used for reserved appointments as well. I am also available 24/7 through email, and always respond to questions within 24 hours, but usually less than a 12 hour period. If you have other questions, please feel free to send me an email or call my office phone number (913) 469-8500 ext. 3732.
