The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face sections:  Emphasis on conceptual development.  Conversational lecture style with strong emphasis on group participation.  Flipped classroom model when possible with assessments geared towards mastery learning.

Online sections: None currently assigned.

Resource Use

Textbooks: For Math 111 and Math 181 textbooks are optional, as e-book is covered by required Hawkes Learning System software.

Calculators: Scientific calculator with minimum capability to perform exponential operations.

Computer software:  Hawkes Learning System for Basic Mathematics (includes e-book).  For statistics, various computer or calculator resources may be used, but no purchase will needed by students.

Online homework:  Regular completion of Hawkes Certify exercises is required for Math 111 and Math 181.  For higher level classes such as Calculus, homework is traditional paper and pencil format.

Math 111 and Math 181 sections typically have 3-4 unit exams, and a final exam. 50-60% of grade determined by unit and final exams.  The remainder is a combination of homework and in-class exercises.

Homework Policy

Late work and make-up assignments are not usually afforded to students.

Attendance Policy

While attendance is not recorded directly in grading, regular in-class assignments with no make-up policy means that you can’t earn a good grade without regular attendance.  Make-up exams aren’t normally provided except when scheduled in advanced and only to occur BEFORE the original exam date.  Final exam score will replace one missed exam.

As an adjunct serving  multiple colleges, I do not have regular office hours, but can meet by scheduling appointment by email.  I return all student emails within 48 hours, but normally much more quickly.
