The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face sections:   Typically moderate-paced whole group sessions.  Computational examples, a few applications and theory are included.

Resource Use

Textbooks: Essential.  Assignments are given from the textbook each class period for practice problems. Quite a few of the examples done in class are even numbered problems  from the exercise sets in the textbook.

Calculators: Scientific calculators are allowed on exams.  Depending on the course and the material, graphing calculators may or may not be allowed.

Computer software: None

Online homework : None

Assessment

Most of the grade comes from exam scores. There is typically  a "hand-in" assignment component to most courses. Approximately 80% of the grade is determined by exam scores and 20% from other assignments that are turned in and graded.

Homework Policy

At least one week notice is given for anything that is to be turned in. No late work is accepted.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is not taken.  I feel it is important to attend class, and absences may affect the grade because of lack of understanding or knowledge. Exams may be taken earlier than scheduled.  In some classes, one exam may be taken late as long as it is taken before the next class period.  Any other missed exams are replaced with the final exam score.

Availability

Because I work with the Quick Step Plus program, I am occasionally at high schools during the day. Typically I am available on campus late afternoon & evening.  Emails are usually returned before I go home in the evening.  Emails are not answered on the weekends.
