The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

I use a combination of lecture with PowerPoint slides, discussion, learning games, and group activities. The goal of every class is to have a guided practice and students will have asked to go to the board to work on problems.

Resource Use

Book: Extensive
Calculator: Extensive
Software: Limited

Students are expected to have the appropriate calculator for class. A TI-82 or higher will work.

Assessment

55% of Grade, Final is 20%. Tests are given at the end of each unit. Quizzes are given during the weeks in which we do not have a test. Some quizzes will given as a pass/fail grade, where students may retake the quiz until they pass. These "gateway quizzes show skill mastery.

Homework Policy

25% of grade. Assignments are collected once a week during the fall/spring semesters. Assignments are collected at the end of each unit during the summer. In class work will also fall into this category.

Attendance Policy

We will follow the school's attendance policy. Make up exams will be given in the JCCC Testing Center.  Quizzes will be made up during class.

Availability

I will be available between classes during the summer.  Office hours will be handed out at the start of each semester.

Additional Information

I highly encourage the use of the Math Resource Center for individual and group help outside of class.  It is a resource you pay for with your tuition, so USE it.
