The following information comes from the named instructor and should describe characteristics general to courses as taught by this instructor. Individual sections of specific courses will deviate from this description in some respects.

Class Format

Face-to-face section. This is a lecture/lab class. Lectures are combination of PowerPoint presentations and group discussions. Quizzes and group presentations are part of the course. Labs have a small lecture introduction in addition to hands-on experiments to test different hypotheses.

Resources Use

Textbooks, Group presentations/Online resources, lab manual, calculator, D2L, and online access to Mastering Biology website.

Exams and quizzes are used for all classes (short answer/essay questions, multiple choice and True/False). Students are also required to submit group lab reports over the labs completed during the semester.  Working throughout the semester on group presentations which are given by the students towards the end of the semester.

Homework Policy

Labs, Quizzes, and Lab reports cannot be made up. Late assignments (lab reports) lose points for each day late. Exam may be made up in the Testing Center if you have attended 90% or more of lectures. Extraordinary circumstances may be approved by the instructor either in advance or within 24 hrs.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is taken for lecture and Labs. As long as students have not missed more than 10% of the course, they are eligible to take a make-up test.  This is explained in detail in the syllabus.

Lab attendance is used to determine eligibility to submit lab reports.

I do not have scheduled office hours, so my office hours are by appointment. Emails are usually answered within 24 hrs. (Practically may be shorter than that!) Grades are live on D2L as soon as they are determined.
