JCCC Theatre Scholarship Auditions for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

4-7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019
9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019

  • Areas of study include acting, directing and theatrical design and technology
  • Acting, directing and production opportunities with six shows produced each season
  • Two state-of-the-art performance spaces: Bodker Black Box Theatre and Polsky Theatre

To participate:

  • Email or call Beate Pettigrew, 913-469-3245 to schedule a 10-minute audition appointment.
  • Complete the application form and bring it to your audition along with a résumé that outlines your theatre experience by job or role and production.
  • Bring or mail in at least one letter of recommendation from a theatre teacher or director. Students who have participated in JCCC productions do not need to bring a recommendation letter.
  • Prepare a memorized monologue, no more than 2 minutes in length, to present to the faculty.
    • If you sing, you may prepare 32 bars to perform in addition to the monologue. Bring your accompaniment on tape or CD or perform a cappella.
  • If you are interested primarily in technical theatre, you may present a portfolio of your work instead of performing a monologue.
    • Appropriate items could include production or stage manager’s books, drafting, class projects, art work etc.

Scholarship requirements:

  • Have and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Be actively involved in at least one JCCC Theatre production each semester as a major role, stage manager, assistant stage manager, assistant director, design assistant, or other positions as agreed upon with faculty
  • Complete 50 hours of department-related work each semester (such as script library, office assistant, scene painting, construction)
  • Attend mandatory work calls, meetings, strikes, post-mortems, etc. as set by the department
  • Carry out assigned duties responsibly, punctually, cooperatively and show respect for others
