Class Format
Face-to-face sections: Classes are mainly lectures with many examples worked out in class. A few courses (Statistics, Discrete Math, and Finite Math) have prepared note packets. For most classes, students are responsible for writing their own notes. Student participation and questions are encouraged.
Online sections: N/A
Resource Use
Textbooks: Homework is assigned from the textbooks in every class. In addition, reading from the textbook is assigned in Statistics and Discrete Math.
Calculators: Scientific Calculators (e.g. TI-30) are used in Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. Graphing Calculators (e.g. TI-84) are used in courses at Math 165 level and higher.
Computer software: N/A
Online homework: N/A Online homework is not assigned in any of my classes.
Assessment
Periodic worksheets are graded in most of the classes. In-class work is collected and graded in some of the classes. There are usually 4 unit tests. The departmental cumulative final exam is given in each class.
Homework Policy
Extra credit for homework is offered in algebra classes. “Class Preparation Sheets” (which includes reading, attendance, and homework) is assigned in Statistics, Discrete Math, and Finite Math. For Trigonometry and Calculus, homework is assigned, but not collected nor graded.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is taken every day in every class. Attendance is tied to homework in the algebra classes and in those classes where a Class Preparation sheet is collected.
Availability
Office hours are usually held in the Math Resource Center, CLB 212. Check the course syllabus for times.
