Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Classes are mainly lecture format with lots of examples and applications and opportunities for questions.  I provide skeleton notes for all classes.  Questions from students and other student participation is encouraged.

Resource Use

The textbook is optional for all classes except for Math 120 and Math 181.

MyMathLab is required and used extensively for Math 111, 115, 116 and 171.  Other computer software use is required for 120 and 181.

Calculators are used in every course.  In Math 120, a financial calculator is required.  In Math 171 and above, a graphing calculator is required.  In all other courses a scientific calculator is sufficient.  I recommend a TI-30XII2 or TI-34.

Assessment

All classes have homework in some form, 4 or 5 unit exams, and a final exam.  In class assignments are also part of the overall grade in Math 111.  Math 120 will also have spreadsheet and discussion assignments that are part of the overall grade.  Typically 10% of the grade is determined by homework, 15-20% of the grade is determined from the final exam and 70-75% is determined by unit exams.

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned and counts toward the overall grade.  Homework is due weekly.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is not required, but students can receive extra credit and the opportunity to replace his/her lowest unit test score if they meet the attendance policy as set forth in the syllabi for each course.   Makeup tests are not allowed.
